I am pleased to report that "No XQS" was invited to the 100 Cars of Radnor Hunt concours near Philly this month.

to participate in a special class dedicated to the designs of Virgil Exner. In addition to a host of lesser Chrysler Corp. products of his era, we had a '56, '57, '60, and my '61 Imperials on the field all immaculate. Oddly, I was the only member of this club there!

One particular pleasure of a very fine show was the presence of Virgil Exner, Jr., who took time to visit and comment on each car of his father's design there (and had one of his own, the Renault Caravelle on display, too).

I have one or two very nice pictures of him with "No XQS" (my '61 Convertible) and one clearly showing the double-curved windshield of the '61 re. a recent thread.

He and I have corresponded by mail a bit in the past regarding automotive design (I have some original art of his for the Imperial revival coupe that was recently topic of another thread here & he critiqued my own revival sketches that were posted on the Bonus Images site of my entry at club's 1961 page). It was good to put a face with that more distant friendship. He's a very bright, very congenial sort, 78 yrs young, with just a hint of his father's look.

I realized as I gathered these that I didn't take many pix other than the Mopars! There were many great cars there, Stutz & Jaguars were featured, and there was a host of unusual ones, too - I was just having too good a time!

Here are a few of the non-Imps - and here you can see I have focused on details of the craftsman's art, rather than whole cars. I'm presently building a speedster body on a 1932 Buick straight 8, so my eye is drawn to such things!

Other Jags including a XK120, 140, 150 & XJR-S & XJ220 were there, plus a selection of Rolls Royces, an L-29 Cord, and a host of unusual sports cars (Ferrari, Siata, etc.). I've named the files here, FYI. (just mouse-over the picture)

The Talbot-Lago took Best of Show - fair enough, though my vote would have gone to the Isotta-Fraschini (check out those polished copper brake drums and the cast metal heel cup inside).

The hybrid van has a small gas-engine, spinning a generator that drives a DC traction motor!

The site is the Radnor Hunt, which is an equestrian club.

Sue (visible in shot with hybrid van) was drawn to the parallel running of the carriages with single through four-in-hand hitches. It looks like a golf course (more typical for concours), but without the hyper-maincured greens and such, just open rolling meadows.
