I found this 1959 Imperial Crown Coupe on Craigslist in Pennsylvania the first part of summer 2012. I had been looking for quite some time for just the right car. The description for this car was buried in another ad for a 1957 Cadillac. I think that is why I was able to get it before someone else grabbed it. I talked to the owner on and off through out the summer. He had some personal things come up and he found a few problems with the car and didn't want to sell it until those problems were fixed. I thought that was generous of him. Finally, in the fall, I was able to arrange a trip down to see the car. It was love at first sight. That was the first time I had ever seen a late fifties Imperial in person. I have seen plenty of other Imperials at car shows but never one from 1957-1959. I love the elegance of Exner's design. The Southhampton roof, the fightsweep deck and the flow of the tailfins. Pure art. I was hooked and she was mine. I arranged to have her shipped back to Vermont and she was here two weeks later.
She is a low mileage (37,000) all original car. Purchased in August of 1959 near Pittsburgh PA, she spent the first 53 years of her life in Pennsylvania. I am the third owner. Finished in Ruby Metallic with the optional black roof. She has a rose leather and cloth interior, swivel and power seats and power windows. Everything works except the clock, even the radio. The chrome and the paint are beginning to show their age. She runs well, just a couple of small repairs I need to do before the summer 2013 car show season. I'm trying to decide how much I'm going to do and how much I'm going to keep original. For right now I'll just make sure she's running right and keep her clean so I can enjoy taking her out on the road. The family just loves riding in our "new" Imperial.
We hope the Beauchain's will send us more pictures and keep us up to date on the restoration of their very nice 1959 Coupe
